Welcome to the town of Idyllwild. If you are a PCT hiker doing the 2650 mile Pacific Crest Trail, you’ve probably landed in our town about 150 miles into your journey. This page is here to help you have an awesome and fruitful visit in our little town.

Bathrooms

Laundry

The laundry is located on lower Pine Crest avenue across the street from the Fire Department. The laundry is open DAILY from 8 AM – 8 PM. If you can find the fire department, you can find the laundry. They have a “Wash & Fold” service so if you don’t have time or don’t want to do your own laundry, you can try this service. It generally takes 24 hours. If you have questions, you can call: (951) 659 – 2217.

Lodging

There are appx. 10 hotels in Idyllwild, plus several property management companies, and a bucket load of AirBNB’s & VRBO’s. Unfortunately, there are no hostels in Idyllwild. If you can manage to NOT come through Idyllwild on a weekend, your chances of getting a hotel room are much much better. There are also 2 campgrounds fairly close to town that accept PCT hikers as well with showers.

The State Park ($5 per night) is right in the middle of town, and generally has an area specifically designated for PCT hikers to “pitch a tent” and share. It is literally .2 miles from the Chevron Gas station in town, and very close to the Fire Department. It is $5 per night and they have showers.

The County Park is .7 miles from the center of town, about a 12 minute walk. It is $25 per night.

If you are looking for a room in a hotel, there is a site called www.Idylodging.com that gives you all the hotel listings in one place with a link to their websites, and their phone numbers. It only carries availability information for weekends, because most places have availability mid-week.

The closest places to the center of town and the post office are: Idyllwild Inn, Silver Pines Lodge & Fireside Inn. Lodge. 1/2 a mile from the center of town is Idyllwild Bunkhouse, The Grand Idyllwild Lodge, Creekstone Inn & Strawberry Creek Inn. After that, the following places are about 1 mile from the center of town: Woodland Park Manor, Tahquitz Pines & Bluebird Cottage Inn.

Transportation

There are no taxis, Ubers or Lyfts in Idyllwild. There are a number of people who have their phone numbers out there that make themselves available for rides. There may be additional people listed on the FACEBOOK Idyllwild PCT Trail Angel page.If you’re looking for a “Free Ride” I recommend posting a message on the FB Idyllwild PCT Trail Angel Page. In addition, the folks in Idyllwild are always coming and going and are often times apt to just stop and pick you up if you put out the hitch-hiking sign. People are very nice in Idyllwild. Below is a small list of people who are committed to driving PCT hikers (for a fee) from as close as Paradise Corners to as far as the airports or even various spots along the PCT if you are attempting to get around sections of the trail. Give them a call.

Medical Treatment

There is a clinic in Idyllwild, but it is NOT an urgent care clinic. You are welcome to call. 951-659-4908 and see if an appointment is available, but for urgent needs, the closest Urgent Care is 30 minutes away by car in Hemet.

Mail Delivery

All PCT hikers will more than likely need to visit the Post Office while in Idyllwild. It is very centrally located in the Strawberry Creek Shopping Center just across the street from Idyllwild Inn. The hours are Monday – Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. If you are picking up a package, there are post office employees sorting mail on Saturday even though the post office is closed, and from 12 PM – 1 PM, you can knock on the door inside the lobby and someone will retrieve a package for you. No other services are provided on Saturday.

Eating Out

There are many places in Idyllwild, but the most important thing to keep in mind is most are NOT open late. Most all restaurants are closed around 8 PM with the exception of a few places on Friday & Saturday nights, but even then they are open until 9 PM.
